Alternative Screen: Stocks Trading at 75% or Lower to Fair Value

Jackson Pollock: 1912-1956

No picks from my 52 Week Low Screen – so rather than continuing to present you with my standard screens that are not generating any candidates, I thought I would show you one of my more interesting screens that allows you to review companies trading at a 75% discount to their fair value.

Alternative Art (above) – Alternative screen (below) – Get it?

This is what I would characterize as a fishing screen – to find candidates for further research.  I use it when I am striking out on my standard screens – here are the current results:

Ticker Price Fair Value Margin of Safety Yield %
BIIB $253.63 400 $146.37 0.0%
BMRN $84.31 132 $47.69 0.0%
V $70.15 104 $33.85 0.7%
VTR $56.95 83 $26.05 5.2%
GILD $88.07 128 $39.93 1.4%
GPS $29.75 43 $13.25 3.1%
ESRX $69.59 100 $30.41 0.0%
AMGN $140.96 194 $53.04 2.3%

Still a lot of Healthcare – and most of the listed companies do not pay the kind of dividend I want, but still a list well worth investigating for future investments.  Feel free to click on the tickers to start your own research.

Results are based on the following screen:

  1. Price / Fair Value <= 0.75
  2. Economic Moat >= Narrow
  3. Financial Health Grade >= B
  4. Morningstar Rating = Five Stars
