Options Trade – Ventas Inc (VTR)

I had to do something with my covered call trade with Ventas Inc. (VTR) yesterday. Here is the original trade:

• Bought 1000 shares of VTR at $42.42
• Sold: 10 April 19, 2024 Calls
• Strike Price: $42.50
• *Premium Collected: $1000.00

I believe these were my options:

• Allow the VTR shares to be called away since the shares were trading above $42.50, without any follow up – quick profit of $1,530.00;
• Allow the VTR shares to be called away and sell Ten (10) new May 17, 2024 cash secured puts at the $42.50 strike price for about a $1,100.00 credit;
• Roll the shares to the May 17, 2024, $45.00 strike for about a $100.00 credit;
• Roll the shares to the May 17, 2024, $42.50 strike for a $1,150.00 credit.

I had already collected the April 2024 VTR dividend of $450.00, so I was open to walking away but ultimately decided to roll the shares for one more month at the $42.50 strike price:

• *Premium Collected: $1,150.00

If VTR is trading above $42.50 on May 17th, 2024, and my shares are called away – my total profit would now be *$2,680.00.
